Military Medal 'At VILLERET on the 18th September, 1918, Private STEWART in company with No. 7039 Private C. NOFFKE and 7347 Private W. HEASLOP, acted as Scouts, and came under heavy fire from two machine guns and a party of enemy, twenty five to thirty strong. These three Scouts showing great boldness and initiative, worked round the right flank of the party, and preventing them from entering QUARRY WOOD, the most likely place of retreat. They then closed with them, succeeding in killing and wounding several. The remainder (three N.C.O.s and fifteen men) with two machine guns surrendered. By this courageous act, it enabled the post to go forward without interference and establish itself on the Western edge of QUARRY WOOD.'
