'During an attack on the enemy positions south of MORLANCOURT, near ALBERT, on the night 10/11th June, 1918, this N.C.O. seeing a Minenwerfer was causing a lot of trouble, organised a party of men, went forward, and bombed the mortar position, killing all the crew and putting the mortar out of action. Afterwards in consolidating, he did splendid work, and was a fine example to all the men by his daring and spirit.'
