Medals |
Military Medal 'On night 3rd/4th October near Lake Zonnebeke 2nd Corporal STONEHOUSE performed most gallantly under fairly heavy machine gun and rifle fire in assisting to lay out almost a mile of tracing tape to mark the assembly and jumping off positions and routes for the attacking troops on the following morning. The whole work, portions of which lay in No Man's Land, was completed without the knowledge of the enemy in its correct position, and assisted materially towards the success of the attack. 2nd Corporal STONEHOUSE has repeatedly displayed the greatest coolness under fire and disregard of danger, particularly during Somme operations in 1916 and 1917. The completion of several important works has been largely due to his skilful leadership.'
