Military Medal 'For distinguished conduct throughout the day of 29th September. This N.C.O. led his men through a thick fog and artillery barrage, keeping touch with his infantry the whole time. When information was received that the enemy was massing West of JONCOURT he took his gun and team forward through heavy fire, got into action covering the enemy's line of counter attack, and when the counter attack developed killed large numbers of the enemy. His wonderful example and splendid courage made it possible to do this and the work done was proof of the sterling character of this soldier.'
