Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 1 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'Is recommended for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action near HAMEL WOOD, east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. Throughout the operation this N.C.O. displayed magnificent gallantry and great leadership. Early in the attack his Platoon Commander was wounded and he immediately took command and led the Platoon on with great dash and utter disregard for personal safety. When the final objective was reached his Platoon got down very quickly and his post was put in an excellent state of defence. While a section of his Platoon was moving forward to investigate an enemy post they were opened on by an enemy machine gun and several of them were wounded. He immediately rushed to their assistance, and although the position was still subject to heavy fire he dressed their wounds and got them back to our lines. His work throughout was magnificent and richly deserves recognition. He was awarded the Military Medal on the 27th March, 1918 for gallantry at HEBUTERNE.'
