War service: Egypt, Western Front Taken on strength, 48th Bn, 19 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 9 June 1916. Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 24 June 1916 (sprained right foot); transferred to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 June 1916; transferred to Ambulance Train No 25, 30 June 1916, and admitted to 25th General Hospital, Camiers; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 20 July 1916. Proceeded to join 1st Anzac Headquarters for permanent Base duties in Corps Area, 3 November 1916. Attached for duty to 1st Anzac Corps Troop Supply Column, 9 November 1916. Accidentally wounded, 8 May 1917 (gun shot wound, eye: soldier not to blame), and admitted to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Amiens, 9 May 1917; to 59th General Hospital, 19 May 1917 (corneal ulcer); to Ambulance Train, 31 May 1917, and admitted to 1st South African General Hospital, Abbeville, 1 June 1917; transferred to 3rd General Hospital, Le Treport, 2 June 1917; to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 11 July 1917.
