'During the heavy shell fire of the night of June 10th, 11th 1917 he splendidly organised and led the squads under him at the Advanced R.A.Ps. of the 50th and 52nd Battalions (Australian Infantry) at O 33 b3.9. near MESSINES. (Sheet 28 S.W. 1/20,000.) that the evacuation of wounded who were numerous was accelerated and conducted without a hitch. He very ably and courageously supported Sergeant McGregor.'
