Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No 103 Date: Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry while commanding a company during an attack. He organised a party of nine men with two Lewis guns and rushed an enemy machine-gun nest, capturing two machine guns and ten prisoners. His marked courage and initiative enabled the flank units to advance.'

When the advance was held up by machine-gun fire he organised two parties, and, leading one of them himself, overcame the enemy's resistance and inflicted heavy losses on them. He then established himself in a position of great tactical importance, and gained touch with the units on his flanks. His coolness and skill were of the greatest value at a critical time.'
