Bar to Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and resource in an attack. When the advance was held up by machine-gun fire he organised two parties, and, leading one of them himself, overcame the enemy's resistance and inflicted heavy losses on them. He then established himself in a position of great tactical importance, and gained touch with the units on his flanks. His coolness and skill were of the greatest value at a critical time.'
