Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at HARBONNIERES, East of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 8th and 9th August 1918. Acting as scout he made valuable reconnaissances well forward of the line in the face of heavy enemy machine gun and rifle fire. He established the position of flanking units and kept his Company commander well informed of the situation. On the 9th August he again displayed fearless bravery in bringing back information across open bullet swept country. His conduct throughout was a striking example to his Company. He has at all times displayed gallantry and devotion to duty.'
