Wounded in action, 27 July 1916 (shell shock); admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Boulogne, 30 July 1916; transferred to England, 15 August 1916 (tachycardia), and admitted to VAD Hospital, Westgate-on-Sea; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford (date not recorded); discharged on furlough, 16 October 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 31 October 1916.

Marched into Overseas Training Brigade, 22 August 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 September 1916; rejoined 22nd Bn, in the field, 28 September 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, left forearm), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 11th General Hospital, Camiers; to England, 15 October 1917, and admitted to Oakdene Auxiliary Hospital, Lancashire; discharged on furlough, 17 November 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 1 December 1917.
