Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations east of Jeancourt on the 18 September, 1918. When the left flank of the battalion was temporarily hund up by two field guns, he, with his Lewis gun, and in company with another non-commissioned officer, dashed forward and brought fire to bear on the hostile guns, putting the crews out of action and capturing the guns. At a later stage he again rushed forward in company with another non-commissioned officer and engaged the enemy with such effect that his company was able to take the position.'
