Military Medal 'On the morning of 7th November, 1917, the enemy commenced a heavy area bombardment with large calibre shells in the vicinity of IDEAL POST east of YPRES. The first shells wounded three infantry men. Private SWANSON did not hesitate but went out into the middle of the area admidst the heavy bombardment dressed and carried one man to comparative safety unaided and twice again alone repeated the performance without any loss of time. Thus saving the lives of three wounded men with great personal risk to himself and in the face of what seemed almost certain death showed immense bravery and keen devotion to duty.'
