Military Medal 'As leader of a stretcher bearer squad during the operations East of VILLERS BRETONNEUX, near AMIENS, from 8th to 11th August 1918, this man under heavy artillery, machine gun and rifle fire, got in many wounded, and was thus responsible for saving a great number of lives. He refused to take a rest until he had systematically searched the battlefield to ensure that all the wounded had been brought in., He set a conspicuous example of devotion to duty and great bravery.'
