Military Medal 'Medical Orderly attached to 1st Battery A.F.A. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in tending wounded under all conditions. During operations near POLYGON WOOD on 23rd October, 1917. When an officer was severely wounded he - under heavy shell fire - went to him and dressed his wounds. He then conducted the Stretcher party to the Dressing Station across a ridge which was being heavily shelled with H.E. and Gas. He set a splendid example in his disregard for personal risk.'
