War service: Egypt, Western Front

Posted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Egypt, after undertaking medical service on HMAT 'Ballarat', 4 July 1915.

Embarked Suez on 'Themistocles' and proceeded to Australia, 15 August 1915; disembarked Fremantle, 2 September 1915; returned to duty in the 5th Military District, 30 September 1915.

Disembarked from HMAT 'Borda' at Suez, 11 February 1916; re-attested at Zeitoun, 18 February 1915; proceeded to join 2nd Australian Division, Ismailia, 5 March 1916; taken on strength of 6th Field Ambulance, Moascar, 8 March 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'City of Edinburgh' and proceeded to join British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 27 March 1916.

Admitted to 6th Field Ambulance, 24 April 1916 (phthisis); discharged to duty, 26 April 1916; attached for duty with 26th Bn, Belgium, 11 September 1916; taken on strength of 7th Field Ambulance, 16 September 1916.

Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, 4 December 1916, and transferred to 1st New Zealand Hospital, Amiens (bronchitis); to Ambulance Train, 5 December 1916; admitted to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 6 December 1916; transferred to 4th Convalescent Depot, 7 December 1916; discharged to Australian General Base Depot, Etaples, 17 December 1916.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 22 December 1916 (dilated action heart); transferred from Etaples for further treatment, 30 December 1916. Embarked Havre on HS 'Warilda' and proceeded to England, 31 December 1916; admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, 1 January 1917; discharged on furlough, 29 January 1917. Marched into No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 14 February 1917; moved out, 16 February 1917; marched into Medical Corps Training Depot, Parkhouse, 17 February 1917; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 4 April 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Runic', 4 May 1917; disembarked Fremantle, 26 June 1917 (dysproa palpitation). Discharged as being medically unfit for continued service, Perth, 9 August 1917.
