Military Medal

'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the operations of September 29th in the attack on BONY and the HINDENBURG LINE. This man was a runner between Battalion and Company headquarters and carried messages backwards and forward continuously during the day and night under exceptional heavy machine gun and artillery fire. It was impossible to maintain any telephone lines and the situation was obscure until information was brought back by this man. Throughout the following three days this man was untiring in his efforts to bring back information. His courage and devotion to duty was of the highest order.'
