Military Medal 'At HERLEVILLE East of AMIENS on 18th August 1918, this man showed great coolness in laying a telephone line in rear of the advancing wave and only when the line had been repeatedly cut did he relinquish his attempt to establish communication by this means. He then volunteered to carry a message back overland although the previous runner had been killed a few yards from him. This soldier crossed a level and fire swept zone with his message in daylight and did not hesitate though heavy enemy fire was directed upon him. He also rendered a valuable and accurate verbal report of the situation and throughout the remainder of the day showed bravery and coolness above the average.'
