War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 2 May 1915. Wounded in action, 4 May 1915 (gun shotwound, left buttock); admitted to Government Hospital, Thebir el Kom, 14 June 1916; discharged to duty, 18 June 1915; rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 30 June 1915. Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, 7 July 1915 (diarrhoea), and transferred same day to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 26th Casualty Clearing Station, Lemnos, 10 July 1915; discharged to duty, 10 July 1915; rejoined Bn, Gallipoli, 22 July 1915. Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, 19 August 1915 (bronchitis), and transferred same day to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; embarked Lemnos, 19 August 1915; disembarked Alexandria, 20 August 1915, and admitted to Government Hospital; transferred to Ras el Tin Convalescent Depot, 17 September 1915; discharged to duty, 20 November 1915, and marched in to Overseas Base, Ghezireh.
