War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney on 'Demosthenes', 22 December 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 3 March 1917 and marched into 7th Training Bn, Rollestone. Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 17 March 1917 (eczema); discharged to unit, 3 April 1917. Found guilty, 12 April 1917, of being absent without leave, 6.00 am, 10 April, to 3.15 pm, 10 April 1917: awarded 1 day's confinement to quarters; forfeited total of 3 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France through Southampton, 19 June 1917; marched into No 2 Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 20 June 1917; moved out, 7 July 1917; marched into 25th Bn and taken on strength, 9 July 1917. Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 20 October 1917 (laryngitis); transferred to 10th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 July 1917; to 26th General Hospital, 28 October 1917.
