Military Medal

'At HERLEVILLE, East of AMIENS, in the attack on the 18th August, 1918, this N.C.O. advanced under heavy Machine gun Fire, answering same with hosing fire from his Lewis gun. In the mopping up of isolated pockets of the enemy, his bravery and skill in taking up successive positions with his Lewis gun, regardless of bombs which were thrown at him, was instrumental in clearing up the objective and killing many of the enemy. His gallant bearing and fine soldierly qualities were marked features of this N.C.O.'s work.'
