Proceeded on leave, 18 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 8 March 1918. Admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station with venereal disease, 15 April 1918; transferred to 39th General Hospital, Le Havre, for treatment, 20 April 1918. Total treatment: 54 days. Discharged to Australian Infantry Base Depot, 7 June 1918; marched out to unit, 19 June 1918; rejoined unit, 24 June 1918.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 10 June 1918; Temporary Corporal, 4 July 1918; Corporal, 15 September 1918.

On leave in the United Kingdom, 11-29 December 1918. Returned to France, 9 January 1919. Found guilty of being absent without leave, 28 December 1918-3 January 1919. Awarded severe reprimand by Commanding Officer and forfeiture of 7 days' pay.

Admitted to 7th General Hospital, France, 28 April 1919 (scabies); transferred to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, England, 8 May 1919; transferred to 1st Australian General Hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 10 May 1919. Discharged from hospital, 20 May 1919, and granted furlough to report to Headquarters, 3 June 1919.

Granted leave (pay only, no allowances) to work as a boilermaker at G.R. Cowen & Co., Nottingham, 10 July-31 October 1919. Non-military employment leave cancelled as from 1 August 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board H.T. 'Devon', 8 October 1919. Disembarked Australia, 29 November 1919; discharged, 12 January 1920.
