Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a scout. During the attack he was continuously out in front of the leading line, locating and attacking machine guns, two of which he put out of action single handed. He located a battery of field guns, and put one of them out of action by bombing the gunners. Throughout the operations he rendered valuable service in carrying messages and reconnoitring locating, and mopping up enemy strong points.'
