Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a runner under most trying conditions. He went forward with two others into enemy territory and brought back several wounded men under heavy fire. Even after his battalion got out of the line he remained, carrying out the wounded over most difficult ground until almost exhausted.'
