Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, and coolness in leading a small party of men against a strong enemy position. In spite of wire entanglements hidden in the crops, and a heavy barrage of bombs and machine gun fire, he succeeded in entering the position and killing 30 of the enemy, the remainder fleeing in disorder.'
