Military Medal 'For gallantry and untiring devotion to his duties when in charge of mortar in STORMY TRENCH north east of GUEUDECOURT on the night of 20th/21st February, 1917. The mud was knee deep and the base plate several times was driven, by the recoil of the mortar, out of sight (literally) but despite the difficulties he still kept his mortar in action.'
