Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. His flank became exposed and came under heavy machine gun fire from a blockhouse, which he captured, with four machine guns and their crews, thus preventing many casualties. When his cimpany commander was killed he took command, collected men of other units, and established himself on the final objective. Here he again attacked and cleared some blockhouses, reconnoitred the ground in front of his position, established some advanced posts, and kept his commanding officer well informed as to the situation. He showed great ability and courage throughout.'
