Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. The advance was held up by about sixty of the enemy with four machine guns and some snipers. The position was critical, and he at once got together with four machine guns, and put the whole garrison out of action. Though his right arm was shattered early in the attack, he continued to lead his men until all opposition had been overcome. His courageous and determined action enabled the advance to continue.'
