Proceeded overseas to France, 4 February 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Bn, in the field, 12 February 1917.

Admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance, 16 March 1917 (scalded left foot); transferred to 1/1 South Midlands Casualty Clearing Station, 31 March 1917; to Ambulance Train No 30, 3 April 1916, and admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 4 April 1917; transferred to England, 6 April 1917, and admitted to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 25 April 1917; discharged on furlough, 30 April 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 15 May 1917.

Marched out to Machine Gun Training Depot, Grantham, 13 June 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 18 October 1917; taken on strength, 21st Machine Gun Company, in the field, 19 November 1917.

Wounded in action, 3 January 1918 (gassed shell), and admitted to 49th Field Ambulance; transferred same day by Ambulance Train No 36 to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train No 23, 5 January 1918, and admitted same day to No 7 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples; discharged to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 15 January 1918; transferred to No 5 Convalescent Depot, 17 January 1918; to Base Depot, 7 February 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 14 February 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 4 May 1918 (gassed shell), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 15th Casualty Clearing Station; to 83rd General Hospital, 5 May 1918; to No 10 Convalescent Depot, 8 May 1918; to Base Depot, 12 May 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 28 May 1918.
