Transferred to 71st Squadron, Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, 2 April 1917.

On Command, Cadet Bn, Oxford, 6 July 1917.

Attached as 2nd Air Mechanic (Cadet) to 29th Training Squadron, Shawbury, 9 August 1917; transferred to 30th Traiing Squadron, Shawbury, 13 September 1917.

Qualified as Flying Officer (Pilot), appointed 2nd Lieutenant, and posted to AFC, 27 October 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 22 November 1917; marched out to 68th Squadron, 23 November 1917.

Promoted Lieutenant, 27 January 1918.

On leave, 15 February 1918; rejoined Squadron from leave, 2 March 1918.
