Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry. He was in charge of a working party which was subjected to shell and shrapnel fire. A portion of the party was forced to withdraw, but he stuck to his work until dawn, and completed a considerable portion of it. Later he was twice wounded in the attack but continued to lead his men until he was wounded a third time.
