Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his men, time after time, against the enemy under intensw grenade and sniper's fire, until only one man of his section remained unwounded. Although wounded himself, he continued to throw grenades for seven hours until wounded a second time.'
