Found guilty, Codford, 19 October 1916, of (1) breaking camp; (2) being absent without leave from 9.15 am, 15 October, to 8 am, 16 October 1916: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of 2 days' pay under Royal Warrant; total forfeiture of pay: 23 days' pay.

Admitted to Fenwick Hospital, Codford, 7 December 1916 (oedema of throat: dangerously ill).

Proceeded overseas to France, 15 February 1917; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 19 March 1917.

Found guilty, 25 April 1917, of being absent without leave from 11 pm, 24 april, to 9.30 pm, 25 April 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 9 days' pay.

Found guilty, 19 June 1917, of being absent from Tattoo Roll Call, 10 pm to 10.30 pm: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 3 days' pay.

Wounded in action, 29 September 1917 (gun shot wound, right leg), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance and transferred to 12th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 26, 1 October 1917, and admitted to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 2 October 1917; transferred to England, 20 October 1917, and admitted to Reading War Hospital, 21 October 1917 (gun shot wound, right thigh: severe); tramsferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 4 January 1918; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 28 January 1918.

Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 February 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Field Marshal', 12 March 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 22 May 1918; discharged (medically unfit), Adelaide, 6 June 1919.
