War service: raised and commanded 1st Australian Division Ammunition Park (Mechanical Transport); arrived in England with two units, February 1915.

Proceeded overseas to France, July 1915. Commanding Officer, British V Corps Ammunition Sub-Park, 1 August 1915; remained with V Corps mainly in Ypres salient until early 1916 and the arrival of Australian forces.

Appointed Commanding Officer of 1 Anzac Corps Ammunition Park, 25 April 1916. Responsible for reorganization of supply columns and ammunition parks, January 1917; appointed senior mechanical transport officer of 1 Anzac Corps. At the height of the 3rd Battle of ypres his responsibilities were extended to incorporate the whole of the AIF on the Western Front.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Friedrichruh', with wife and 3 children, 22 January 1920; disembarked Melbourne, 9 March 1920; discharged, 28 June 1920.
