Meritorious Service Medal

'This N.C.O. has rendered splendid services to the Battalion in the capacity of Cook Sergeant. During the offensive at YPRES in October, 1917, he showed great initiative in the handling of his department, providing meals regularly for the men in the line, under the most difficult and adverse conditions, often being subjected to exceedingly heavy enemy shell fire. Throughout the winter he has worked untiringly for the benefit of the men, providing a plentiful supply of hot food and drinks, which largely accounts for the small amount of sickness in the trenches, and the high spirit of the men. His work at all times has been of the utmost value to the Battalion.'
