Appointed Corporal extra to establishment and whilst employed on administrative duties, 20 January 1916; promoted sergeant, 1 September 1916. Proceeded to Australia for discharge, and struck off strength of unit, 10 January 1917; discharged, 22 February 1917. Re-enlisted as 1395 Private, Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force, 6 May 1918. Embarked from Sydney on board HMAT SS 'Melusia', 13 June 1918. Arrived from Australia and taken on strength of unit, Rabaul, 24 June 1918. Transferred to D Company, and proceeded to Kaewieng, 6 August 1918.
