War service (Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force): enlisted, 27 July 1915; embarked from Sydney, 20 November 1915. Taken on strength, E Company, Rabaul, 6 January 1916. Appointed Corporal extra to establishment and whilst employed on administrative duties, 20 January 1916; promoted sergeant, 1 September 1916. Proceeded to Australia for discharge, and struck off strength of unit, 10 January 1917; discharged, 22 February 1917.

Re-enlisted as 1395 Private, Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force, 6 May 1918.

Embarked from Sydney on board HMAT SS 'Melusia', 13 June 1918. Arrived from Australia and taken on strength of unit, Rabaul, 24 June 1918. Transferred to D Company, and proceeded to Kaewieng, 6 August 1918. Returned to Rabaul for guard duty, 23 December 1918; returned to Kokopo, 31 December 1918; returned to Rabaul, 6 January 1919. Struck off strength of Rabaul Garrison Old Guard, 13 January 1919. Transferred from A to C Company, and seconded for duty in Department of KHM, and transferred to Kokpo Detachment.

Departed for Australia on board SS 'Melusia', 20 September 1919; arrived in Australia and struck off strength of Rabaul Garrison, 28 January 1919. Discharged, 13 January 1920.
