Distinguished Service Order Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 103 Date: DSO and Bar 'For conspicuous gallantry and leadership in command of his battalion near Herleville Wood on 23rd August, 1918. He kept in close touch with the attack and controlled their movements under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. He made the most of his opportunities, quickly grasping the situation, and set a fine example to his men.'
