'On 9th October, 1917, at BROODSEINDE this man proved himself invaluable as a runner. He made many trips over heavy shelled ground under constant fire of machine guns and snipers. When casualties had reduced the number of runners available this man cheerfully did double work and remained on duty for long periods without sleep. While performing his duties he was wounded.'
