Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his men with great dash in an attack on an enemy strong point, capturing two machine guns and ten prisoners. Later, he took command of his company, and dispslayed great initiative and gallantry under fire.'

Bar to Military Cross

'During the operations east of Proyart, 23rd to 26th August 1918, when his company ame under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and was somewhat disorganized, he quickly grasped the situation, reformed them into organized parties, and, later, when an attacking east of Carenne Wood he led his company with dash and courage, and fought many bomb fights along the communication trenches. He behaved with great gallantry throughout.'
