Embarked Sydney, 17 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 January 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 9 October 1917; taken on strength, 1st Pioneer Bn, in the field, 16 October 1917.

Wounded in action, 18 March 1918 (gassed: phosgene), and admitted to No 1 Australian Field Ambulance, thence to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, and to Ambulance Train No 12, and admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Boulogne. Transferred to No 5 Rest Camp, 25 May 1918; to Australian General Base Depot, Havre, 28 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 10 June 1918.

On leave to United Kingdom, 10 October 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 27 October 1918.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 31 January 1919; transferred same day to 55th Casualty Clearing Station; condition 'critical', 4 February 1919.

Died of disease (influenza), 11 February 1919.
