Medals

Distinguished Service Order

'For conspicuous gallantry and valuable service near Ascension Wood, north of St. Quentin, on 18th September, 1918. He led his compay with the greatest dash until the whole battalion was held up by the intense machine gun fire on the wire of the Hindenburg outpost line. At this stage he took charge of the battalion and displayed great tactical skill in manoeuvring the men to take the position on a flank. He constantly moved up and down the line supervising the action of the companies, and showed a complete disregard for his own personal safety. having successfully reorganised the battalion, he, by a series of skilfully planed bombing attacks, succeeded in carrying the enemy line on a frontage of 1,400 yards.'
