'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in organizing a party, leading them to the attack on a machine gun that was giving trouble, capturing the gun, killing three of the enemy, and taking ten prisoners. When his platoon officer became a casualty, he took command of his platoon for two days under most adverse conditions.'l
