Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry near Lihons on the 11 August, 1918. While the line was being advanced the enemy was encountered in large numbers. This non-commissioned officer showed much ability and initiative in at once engaging them, and inspired his platoon to great efforts. He captured four machine guns and twenty one prisoners, killing five of the enemy.'
