Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. A party of the enemy was defending a hgouse, and holding up our advance as we were clearing a village. Sergeant Walker, with a few men, working round the house attacked it from the rear. Under very heavy machine gun fire, they rushed the enemy with the bayonet, and forced the garrison, which included two officers, to surrender. The courage and initiative displayed by Sergeant Walker during this operation were worthy of the highest praise, and he revealed qualities of leadership of a high order.'
