'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while leading a patrol. He pushed ahead with two men, and, meeting an enemy patrol, broke them up, and captured three prisoners, who he brought back under heavy fire to the remainder of the patrol. He showed great coolness and courage. He has previously done fien work.'
