Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He dislayed the greatest gallantry and complete disregard of personal danger in going out into the open under shell fire to attend to the wounded; on one occasion going to the rescue of an officer commanding a tank, who had been wounded, and dressing his wounds in the open. He displayed similar gallantry later in the day in dressing a runner who had been wounded and whose comrade was killed. Finding that they were carrying orders, he took charge of these and handed them over to the proper quarter.'
