'During the attack on this Battalion Sector in front of Reincourt on 15.5.1917, Private Walsh was foremost in a bombing attack to regain a sap in which the enemy had established a machine gun. By his example the other men of the bombing party were strengthened. He displayed great coolness and courage in the face of the enemy. During the bombardment Private Walsh acted as a runner to Battalion Headquarters when communication was cut off. This was a dangerous undertaking as he had to run through a heavy barrage with his dispatches.'
