Disembarked Suez, ex-'Wandilla', 7 December 1915.

Found guilty, Tel el Kebir, 20 March 1916, of being absent without leave from 2200 hour, 17 March 1916, until 0015 hours, 19 March 1916 (overstayed leave, missed train); admonished by Major P.A.M. Eckersley and forfeited 3 days' pay by Royal Warrant.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Reported as wounded in action, 20 July 1916.

Previously reported wounded, now reported wounded and missing on 20 July 1916, 25 August 1916.

'German list received by Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau, Australian Branch, British Red Cross Society', 4 November 1916, show that 'identification marks found on the Prisoner of War are inspected by the General War Bureau and shown in the lists as under:- DEAD'.

'Identification disc received from Germany', 24 February 1917. 'No particulars afforded except that soldier is deceased. To be reported KILLED IN ACTION, 20/7/16' on the authority of Assistant Adjutant General, ANZAC Section, War Office.

A translated German letter of 2 August 1916 and confirmed on 1 November 1919, states: 'Identity Disc handed over by Intelligence Officer of 6th Army Hd. Qtrs. Through Central Office for Deceased Estates. 12/10/15 (sic). Australian Soldier L. G. Walsh Iden: Disc 311, 31st Btn., fell in the neighbourhood of Fromelles on 19/7'.

A memorandum dated 18 October 1920 notes, 'Walsh, L. G. 311 A. 31 A. T. Fell 19.7.16 near Fromelles'.

Note on Red Cross File No 2850205: 'Disc received from Germany and forwarded to next of kin. 20.6.17' [year unclear].

Note on file: 'The above name appeared on German death list dated 4-11-16.'

Note, 28 April 1919: 'Buried Fleurbaix Sh. 36 N.W. Cert. by A.I.F. Hdqrs List for Lt. Spedding.'

Originally listed as 'No Known Grave' and commemorated at V.C. Corner (Panel No 4), Australian Cemetery, Fromelles; subsequently (2011) identified, and interred in the Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France.
