'In the operations near HESBECOURT on night 18th/19th September, 1918, Corporal WALTON worked incessantly to improve and maintain communication between Brigade Headquarters and the Report Centre. From the time the lines were laid they gave endless trouble, and it was chiefly owing to his determination, bravery and ability in patrolling and mending these lines under heavy shell fire and through gassed areas that telephone communication was maintained.'
