Taken on strength of 3rd Light Horse Training Regiment, Tel el Kebir, 8 June 1916.

Employed as an Instructor with Headquarters, Australia and New Zealand Training and Details Camp, 12 July 1916, and promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant the same day.

Taken on strength of Headquarters, Australia and New Zealand Training and Details Camp, Moascar, 7 August 1916.

Qualified as 1st Class Gunner in Stokes Gun Course, 14 October 1916.

Transferred to, and taken on strength of 4th Machine Gun Squadron, 28 February 1917, and reverts to the rank of Trooper on transfer; promoted to Sergeant, 4th Machine Gun Squadron, 28 February 1917.

Detached to Machine Gun Training Squadron, Moascar, 26 January 1918; rejoined unit, Belah, 7 February 1918.

Detached to Imperial School of Instruction, Zeitoun, 12 March 1918; rejoined unit, 25 March 1918.

To Imperial School of Instruction, 4 July 1918; detained for medical reasons at Reinforcement Camp, Jerusalem, 6 August 1918, while en route to unit; rejoined unit, 26 August 1918.

Marched into Machine Gun Training Squadron, Moascar, 27 August 1918.

Promoted to Temporary Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant, 14 September 1918.

Marched into Cadet School, 1 November 1918; taken on strength of Officers' Cadet Bn, Zeitoun, 2 November 1918.

Appointed Probationary 2nd Lieutenant, 4 January 1919, and posted to 4th Machine Gun Squadron Reinforcements the same day.

Marched out to sick leave, 10 March 1919.

Taken on strength of 4th Machine Gun Squadron, 20 March 1919.

Promoted to Lieutenant, 8 April 1919.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Dongola', 24 July 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 25 August 1919; appointment terminated (discharged), Melbourne, 9 October 1919.
