Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry as a Battalion Runner at BROODSEINDE on 4th October, 1917. His unostentatious devotion to duty and coolness was superb. He never for one second hesitated when a despatch was to be sent, but left Headquarters cheerfully with messages under terrific shell fire. No barrage was too great for him to face and not on one single occasion did he fail to accomplish his work. On all occasions when in the trenches the behaviour of this man has been unsurpassed.'
